Organizational status.
Our Maui is an educational project of Keep Maui Nui Home. Keep Maui Nui Home is a Hawaiʻi nonprofit corporation organized under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code as a social welfare organization.
Our exempt purpose is the civic and social betterment of Maui residents through education, lobbying, and issue advocacy. We do not endorse or oppose candidates for public office. We do not direct charitable funds through this organization; readers interested in tax-deductible charitable giving should consult their tax advisor or consider donations to separately-organized 501(c)(3) entities working on related issues.
Lobbying and issue advocacy.
As a 501(c)(4), we may engage in lobbying as our primary activity. We may take positions on legislation. We may advocate for and against specific policies and bills. We register our lobbying activity with the State of Hawaiʻi where required under Hawaiʻi Revised Statutes chapter 97.
We track our positions on active legislation in a public log. When we testify before the County Council, the State Legislature, or any state board, we publish the testimony on this site.
Financial disclosures.
Keep Maui Nui Home files an annual Form 990 with the Internal Revenue Service. Form 990 is a public document and is available on ProPublica's Nonprofit Explorer and through the IRS's tax-exempt organization search.
Most recent fiscal year filings:
Donor disclosures.
Donations to 501(c)(4) organizations are not tax deductible as charitable contributions. We accept individual donations, foundation grants, and program support from partner organizations. We do not accept anonymous donations above the IRS Schedule B reporting threshold without donor agreement to attribution.
We do not accept funding from political campaigns, candidate committees, or candidate-affiliated PACs.
Paid media disclosure.
From time to time, Keep Maui Nui Home produces and runs paid issue-advocacy media on television, radio, digital video, and social platforms. Paid media carries the disclosure "Paid for by Keep Maui Nui Home" in compliance with state and federal disclosure requirements.
The content on this site, ourmaui.org, is not paid advertising. It is educational content produced by the organization. The two are distinct in how we produce, label, and distribute them.
